More common species have usually three or four, but this one has six various colors like, green, blue, red, pink, black and yellow-green. Parrot's photo taken during our trip to Davao last year.

These photos of orchids are taken when we stopped by in Bahay Pawid Restaurant in La Union the last time we went up to Baguio. This place is our favourite pitstop before climbing up the zigzag Kennon Road. I love this place because they have this orchid garden that is almost always bursting with blooms.

Magic Trick

Our attention was caught by this "Magic" act being shown in the Mall yesterday. The lady performer was carried by the magician and laid her body on two standing poles. Afterwhich, the pole supporting the lady's buttocks was taken away leaving only the pole that supports the neck. Still, the lady remains horizontally suspended on air. Amazing!

Christmas Parcel from Texas

I was surprised when I opened the parcel I claimed from the post office. It came from a long time blogger buddy who's like a daughter to me. She is Demcy Apdian Dias or Dhemz to all of us, her blogger friends. I never expected such act of thoughtfulness to come from someone whom I haven’t yet met in person although I seem to have known her and her family too well through her interesting blogs. I was indeed, very much touched by the kind thought she sent my way!

Thank you so much Dhemz! I love each and everything you sent me most especially the greeting card with your lovely photos and the “Blogging Rocks” ref magnet. I'll treasure this new addition to my collection of ref magnets. The magnetic note pad is so pretty as well as the Las Vegas key chain. I love the colour of the lipsticks too. .. and the lip smacking Texas chocolate bar, great! Thanks for sharing the life in Texas thru your Greg and Demcy 2011 Newsletter.

I only wish I could have the opportunity to meet you in person together with Greg and Akesh when you visit back the country.

Chateau Royale: Our first out of town trip...

...For the brand new year 2012, that is! Last weekend, we had the chance to use another promo voucher I bought online. With my kiddos, daughter’s friend and 2 grandchildren, we trekked the SLEX and headed to Nasugbu, Batangas. We were joined in by my nephew and his family who had to take the public transport coz we’re short of space inside the car and by hubby who biked the more or less 125 kilometer road from Novaliches, Q.C. to Nasugbu, Batangas via Tagaytay City. It was already mid-afternoon when the troop was completed in Chateau Royale.

I’m glad I grabbed this promo deal from a group buying site. I think 1,999.Php for 4/pax , breakfast for four included, free use of swimming pool, and free tour of the flower farm and other spots was truly a good buy! Kids below 12yrs old were also free of charge. We were 8 adults and two kids in all. Just the right number for the 2 vouchers I purchased. Log Cabins are the rooms assigned to this promo deal. Since it is kinda cheap, I didn’t expect the room to be that spacious and nice. It has two comfy double beds, decent bathroom, LCD TV, and enough space for the kids to play around. We could all be accommodated in one room but the kiddos just chose to transfer the one mattress from the other room and left the lonesome bed (and the whole room) all to my nephew and his family’s use. Nonetheless, it was only occupied for sleeping and comfort room utilization. We couldn’t afford to waste the precious time together thus it was all of us together in our log cabin until sleeping time.

There was no clear prohibition in bringing in foods, so we brought some to make sure we can get by in case we don’t like the food in their restaurant. We almost finished the big bowl of carbonarra brought in by niece-in-law, while hubby feasted on the chicken adobo, shrimps and sandwiches, yet by dinner time, we still took the 5 minute drive to Tagaytay and dined-in at the popular Dencio’s Restaurant. ‘Twas a sumptuous meal although quite pricey (to me). Well, I guess, we paid high not only for the good food but for the name and the ambiance. No regrets though coz we enjoyed the food and the service. Plus some singing and dancing entertainment from a group of talented kids.

The weather was chilly. You would think that you are in Baguio. Yeah, that’s the selling point of Tagaytay especially at this time of the year. Good thing, it was pleasantly cold too in Nasugbu. Back in our room(s), it wasn’t long when everyone was slipping under the comforters and eventually in deep slumber.

Sunday morning was a wet one. Swimming was aborted except by the kids. By 12nn, we’re on our way home with a stop-over in Mang Inasal in Tagaytay. Just met nephew and his wife there coz their kid was with us in the car. Hubby as usual went ahead of us earlier at 10am coz he's again biking his way home. When we reached our place, hubby was already there tinkering his beloved Mountain bike!

Last New Year...

We didn’t buy fireworks and firecrackers like I used to. Not much food prepared either though I still did some cooking. I omitted my roast beef this time to give way to the kiddos’ and hubby’s much liked lechon kawali and menudo. For me to have something to eat, I made the easiest to prepare fried chicken as well as some macaroni spaghetti and fruit salad. I’m not a pork eater, hence, I let them do the taste test of the pork recipes I cooked. I guess it was good coz I got a thumbs-up for it. Lol! Added on the table was the tasty and crispy lechon (looks like to me, coz I didn’t eat it) handed out by our good neighbour. (Thanks, Ariola Family!) Nice to have such good neighbour like them!

We didn’t spend a single centavo on fireworks but we still enjoyed the spectacle of colourful fireworks and pyrotechnics. Thanks to our neighbours! We had fun watching. What a good way of enjoying New Years' Celebration! ... penny-wise and safety-wise. wink! (photo courtesy of Atty. Aimee Ariola)

Aww! I’m still in disbelief that 2011 is now boarding! Thanks for the happy times with you 2011! There may have been lots of devastating, fateful events with you, but you only made us stronger! And now that you are about to leave, please take with you all the misfortunes we experienced. Life is beautiful and life must go on no matter what! New Year 2012 is arriving soon. It carries with it new hopes for new beginnings. Goodbye 2011, Welcome 2012!

It's Way Over

Christmas is finally over! Actually, long way over and I’m partially relieved. We expected for lots of kids to come over but only a small number showed up. (I am pertaining to the Godchildren here and not the unknown kids on the street. There were tons of them and they came knocking no end! They received their share of blessings though.) Anyways, the holiday season hasn’t totally ended. New Year is yet to come so we are still looking forward to see these Godchildren come by ‘til the holiday ends. Christmas is for children after all! If they won’t show up, well they probably have their own reasons but we would rather wait for them to come than vice versa.

Anyhow, I thought our Christmas would just be another ordinary Christmas. Thanks to my beloved nephew and his family... and also daughter’s friend! They came over and we had fun. I hope New Year will be the same. ... be celebrated with loved ones and friends.

Joining you in the 2012 countdown! Don’t drain yourself in too much preparations for the “Media Noche”. Take it easy and have fun too! Ciao!

The Paradise that is Pearl Farm Beach Resort

I am a genuine beach-a-holic! People close to me can attest to that. Thus, when daughter planned our Davao vacation, I made sure that we’re gonna make it to Pearl Farm Beach Resort. I got a good number of excellent feedbacks about this fabulous resort, so it thrilled me no end to make it there. However, daughter failed to make a reservation for our day tour beforehand. We were very lucky though that there were still remaining boat slots. Hence, we were readily accommodated by the courteous staff.

The Pearl Farm is a popular beach resort located in Samal Island, south of Mindanao. To get there is to pass through their gateway, the Pearl Farm Marina. This is where we registered and logged- in our names on the boat manifest. This private port is also a beautiful beach resort and hotel by itself.

We embarked the boat and left the Marina at exactly 7:00AM. ‘Twas a relaxing ride amidst the serene blue sea and magnificent view of the Davao shoreline, islets and greeneries of Samal Island. Newspapers and bottled water were handed out to us while on board but found no time to read as I was so stirred up with the exciting trip. Upon reaching the island, we had a warm welcome and a fresh fruit juice when we disembark the boat and stepped on the resort’s iconic Parola. I was quite mesmerized at the first sight of the posh resort. More so when we were shown around the place via an electric shuttle car. Every single nook is worth appreciating! It’s simply awesome!

We wasted no time and took a dip at the stretched of the white, powdery sand beach. How marvellous to be submerged in the clear water and view the little marine lives underneath. I wished our time in the beach won’t end. What a tough time it was for me to leave and break away from the most fancied chillax moment by the breathtaking beach. But time was running out and the buffet lunch must be enjoyed if we wouldn't want to be left by the boat as it was to leave at 1:30pm.

The highlight of the tour was the sumptuous buffet lunch at the restaurant near the seaside. The food served were comparable to the five star hotel’s buffet fares in Makati City. Hubby and the big kiddos seemed not to have enough as they kept on coming back at the serving counters. Ha ha.. And yeah, I have to admit, I think I was the biggest eater in the group eh. Ouch! Eh, why wouldn’t I be when all the food I want were there! Seafood, native chicken tinola, beef, fish and the freshest fruits like pomelo and mangoes. I'm just glad, there was no durian! But the kiddos were looking for it. Eww.... We finished our lunch just exactly on time as the boat was ready by the port waiting for the guest passengers. But we had to make a quick run to the “Butik” souvenir store of the resort for some ref magnet souvenirs to add to our collection.

I was indeed very impressed with everything the resort has. From the first class facilities to the courteous staff! I can’t think of a better adjective to describe our trip to Pearl Farm. All I can remember is that, it was a glorious experience!

Marking Nineteen Years of Cancer Free Life

I’m celebrating a milestone! Woo hoo!! I praise God for all the blessings and miracles in my life!! Nineteen years ago today, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I fought the hardest battle and by God’s grace, I’ve beaten the dreadful disease with flying colours. It wasn’t easy overcoming fears and anxieties but with prayers (loads of it!) I learnt to be optimistic and didn't give negative thoughts any chance of taking over my sanity.

There’s no denying that cancer sucks! It keeps running amuck, indiscriminately hitting anyone, without prejudice to the most health conscious individuals. A number of people close to me have not been spared by this idiotic disease. Tough as she is, I am nevertheless confident that by God’s grace, the loved one is now travelling the road to absolute wellness. Our prayers are walking her through it! And for the cyber niece of mine who is currently threatened by the big C, I know she’s one tough girl too. I am praying for her as well, for her successful operation scheduled today. May this be the start of her complete healing!

Life may not always be perfect but it certainly is full of surprises. And mind you, there sure is a rainbow after the rain! Indeed, there is life after Cancer!

As I've mentioned, I’m celebrating my nineteen years cancer free life! There’s so much to be thankful for and my spirit is soaring high! Please join me in my celebration!

Davao Day 2- Part II : Outland Advanture, Crocodile Farm, Pards

Our second day in Davao seemed too short. There were yet lots of places to visit but so little time in our hands. Nevertheless, we managed to squeeze in most of the itineraries daughter planned for the day. Thus, after fetching hubby at the airport in the mid afternoon, the big kiddos made sure not to miss out the Outland Adventure Zip line they were keen on trying along with their oldie mom . Lol!.. Here’s one “thunders” (a gay lingo for an oldie) who didn’t want to pass over this very challenging experience. As I always say," Life is short. Do what you want to do coz sooner or later; you may not have the chance to do it again." Hence, although breathlessly, I carried out the heart stomping adventure I feel like doing with my two children. Like the terrifying Sky Walk and Edge Coaster ride experience we had in Cebu, this type of extreme adventure is equally bloodcurdling but absolutely awesome! I went with the kiddos and tried to match their guts!

The Zip lining activity was a totally exhilarating experience. It felt like I was a bird flying above the trees, river and mountain coz I sped off, superman style. I should have brought my cam with me up on the lines but I opted not to for fear of dropping it while I get too excited with the thrilling action. Hence, there's no actual footage of that memorable adventure of ours! Sigh! The two guys (hubby Tom and Tantan, daughter's friend) who were left behind were unsuccessful in taking a good shot of us while in speeding action. Good thing, I found one video in the Outland Adventure website. It shows the second half of the fantastic ride like it was my own actual video shot.

Our last destination for the day was The Crocodile Park. Far from what I imagined it to be, the park is only a small zoo of sort that houses a huge crocodile, countless smaller crocs, lots of parrots, hawks, eagles, python, an orangutang , and more species of birds. There were various shows that involve performances of the different animals and a tight rope balancing exhibition right above the crocodiles’ pen. There was an act that the exhibitionist almost fell off the rope. If it was a real accident, the unruly crocs have one good meal. The trip to the Crocodile Park was an added educational trip for us. The place is a real winner for kids. It was already dark when we left the park for our dinner that evening.

Relying on our driver/tour guide, he initially brought us to Luz Kinilaw Place. According to him, it is one of the most sought after eating joints by tourists in Davao. But we backed off after we saw the place at the ground floor. It looks like an ordinary street side eating place to us. (But learned later from other blogs that it is indeed a pretty good place upstairs with good Tuna Inihaw and Kinilaw). Our next stop was Pards, another Pinoy style grille restaurant. Looks like Davao is teeming with this type of eating places. Apparently, these are the kinds of restos that customers flock onto. After our belly bursting dinner at Pards, I understood why it's a fave in the city..

On our way to the hotel, we saw tons of durians being sold on the sidewalk. We pulled over and haggled for one. I couldn't stand the smell so I stayed inside the van and the father and daughter feasted on their loot. They didn't finished the whole thing but wouldn't want to leave the left over behind. They asked the vendor to tie it tightly in a plastic bag to avoid being noticed by the hotels security guard. We entered the hotel's premise like we have nothing with us, let alone a prohibited durian. But as daughter passed by the guard, the guard kept on sniffing like a hound dog. Lol! Then he followed us in our room and asked if we got a durian with us. Daughter tried to deny. Hahaha.. as if she can hide it! But the guard only requested that it be properly wrapped and keep frozen in the cafeteria's ref to be retrieve when we check-out. Daughter gave in but didn't anymore asked for it when we checked out.

Davao Day 2 - Part 1: Phil. Eagle Center, Kookel's, Jack's Ridge, Japanese Tunnel

This is a long delayed post. But I’m posting it just the same for the sake of documenting the memorable vacation/celebration of ours.

On the second day of our trip to Davao, we're up from bed early in spite of the tiring tour we had the first day. We were picked up by our driver/tour guide ahead of the appointed time and headed early to the Philippine Eagle Center. We have heard much about this center where the famous Philippine Eagle named Pagasa is being taken cared of and that made us curious how the birds are doing there. We found out that Pagasa and another one named Pagkakaisa were products of artificial insemination, a successful attempt to increase the dwindling population of the Philippine Eagles. It is now 19 years old. Pagkakaisa, I think is younger. Pagasa is indeed huge! I can only imagine how magnificent it could be if seen out in the wild freely flying high! Hopefully, time will come when humans will be gentler and would stop their poaching activities for the survival of the wild life.

Our trip to Philippine Eagle Center was more of educational than leisure. Pythons are displayed on a couple of stores just like an ordinary pet cat or pet dog. They rent it out for photo op purposes. The two boys dared posing with one. I couldn’t help screaming out of fright! More so when I saw a man placed her little baby girl inside the cage of a massive python just to prove to us that the python isn’t at all ferocious. Oh my!

It was noontime when we finished exploring Phil. Eagle Center. Subsequently, our tour guide/driver brought us to Kookel's for our eating escapade. Kookel’s is another Filipino inspired restaurant located in Bangkal, Davao City. It is also one good eating place with considerably fine ambiance. It has two al fresco dining section and one air conditioned area. We chose to stay inside the aircond room since it was humid and hot that noon. Food choices were the usual Pinoy fare the kiddos enjoy. Sisig, chicken barbecue, chop suey and the likes. I’d say food was great and reasonably priced which is likewise highly recommendable to those who’d visit Davao.

Wanting to see a lot more of Davao’s popular places, we rushed to see the historical Japanese Tunnel but passed by Jack’s Ridge along the way. Located at the top of Shrine Hills in Matina, Jack’s Ridge is a resort with restaurants and bars to choose from and a pool which we were not able to see. From here, the breathtaking view of Davao can be seen crisp and clear on a bright sunny day. Likewise, we were told that it is more interesting at night coz the city lights brings forth more enigmatic scenery than daytime. After some good photo sessions we proceeded to Japanese Tunnel.

The Japanese Tunnel is a historical spot that was conserved and safeguarded from further destruction. The remaining tunnel is only about 300 meters long but is said to be much, much longer and crisscrossed had it not been occupied and owned by other private individuals. It is totally dark if not for the light bulbs that lit the place. It’s hard to believe how this tunnel took its shape. From there, you can clearly visualise the sufferings of the Filipinos who were forced to dig the tunnel under the harsh supervision of the Japanese conquerors. It was indeed a nice actual review of our Philippine history.

Davao Day 1: Eden Nature Park and Deca Wake boarding Park

More than a week had passed since I first set foot in Mindanao. Like any first timers, I got excited the moment I saw the Davao International Airport signage from the plane. From the airport we were fetched by the van daughter had previously arranged online. We knew we were too early to check-in but we proceeded to our hotel just the same. We were allowed to leave our luggage with them thus it sets us free to start our tour of the city. But before we started off, we had our breakfast at the dormitel's cafeteria. They serve combo meals consisting of a cup of rice with two kinds of viands plus coffee or juice. I thought I could already claim our free 2 sets of breakfast but I was told and realized as well that we haven’t checked-in yet. So I had to pay for all the orders.

After filling up, we began our day's journey. Our very first destination was..

Eden Nature Park – This is the mountain resort found at the foot of mount Talomo almost 3,000 feet high above sea level. It is a 40 minute drive from our hotel in Mt. Apo Street in Davao City. We reached Eden Park at mid morning and people were already converging at the reception area. The park offers recreational activities like fishing, horseback riding, zip lining and swimming but didn’t try any of those time consuming activities.

We only wanted to see as many places as we can that day. The guided tour cost P100 and the compulsory lunch or snack is P450/pax and P180/pax respectively. We chose the latter coz we preferred to lunch at the restaurant suggested by our driver cum tour guide. After paying at the reception, we boarded the shuttle service and were brought around the magnificent nature park. The breathtaking vastness of verdant greens and colourful flowers are amazing. There were so many lovely spots to see and appreciate. Unfortunately we didn’t have much time to see all the gorgeous spots.

After a few more treks around, we boarded our rented van and proceeded to have lunch.

Penong’s Barbecue and Seafood Grille Restaurant. We were told it’s one of the best in the city. I could say the food is really good especially their Chicken Inato. I like all the food listed in their menu and mind you, the prices are surprisingly low!

We’re so filled up and satisfied with less than a P700 lunch for five (that’s the four of us plus our driver). Then off to the long desired sport activity of the big kiddos.

The Deca Wakeboard Park. It’s a serene place of massive lake not far from the greeneries of the mountain side. Located within the Deca Homes Residences, the place I think. is still an on-going project.

There wasn’t too many wake boarders at the time probably because it was already 3pm. That gave the big kiddos opporunity to enjoy the activity without queuing unlike in CWC. It was more than two hours of extreme physical exhaustion for these herd of mine but I saw the great satisfaction on their faces when we left the place. This wound up our first day of Davao tour. Then we were back to our hotel.

Green Windows Dormitel - The place is a hotel and a dormitory in one located in the 5^th floor of FTC Towers in Mt. Apo Street. Room rates are very affordable so we booked for the spacious room which is the Executive Twin. It is only good for four hence, we needed additional bed when hubby arrived on the second day. It is well secured and is only stone’s throw away from nice restaurants. The dormitory type room with double deck beds are for only P188/pax. The place is relatively new and generally clean and well maintained. The service is likewise good. For our dinner that evening, we asked for listings of food deliveries from the reception area, dialled one and we had our food delivered in no time.

The stumbling block

Our flight to Davao, a province located in Mindanao Island south of the Philippines was early Saturday morning. We needed to be in the airport at least 3 hours before departure time. As we were running out of time to reach the airport on schedule, hubby sped up his driving. However, in so doing, he wasn’t able to avoid running over a goddamn big rock lying on the middle of the poorly lit road. The result? A damaged oil tank that drained all the oil! We weren’t even halfway to airport yet. To cut the story short, hubby had to be left behind. His plane ticket wasted and had to book for the next day’s flight. The car had to be towed and be brought to the repair shop. Since it was 2 am, he had to wait for business hour to call a towing service. We, (the two big kiddos plus daughter's friend) were lucky that a taxi terminal was just few steps away from where we were stalled. We effortlessly availed one that understood our predicament. We quickly transferred all our luggage. The cab driver did well! Good grief, I thought he was a bullet train driver! Haha.. We reached the airport without delay and we still were able to enjoy the luxury of some extra time before departure.

I’m back!

We just arrived last night from a physically draining but emotionally invigorating vacation. I wish our awesome Davao escapade wouldn’t end but it had to. Life is back to normal now. However, the vibrant Davao experience is pretty overwhelming that it won’t leave my mind as yet. Yesterday was our wedding anniversary. This vacation was our way of celebrating it. And I can say, it’s the best celebration we had so far although there had been some glitches on the onset. I'll share here our vacation but have to attend to some important matters around here first. Will post about it soon!

As a way of celebrating our wedding anniversary, which is to happen a week from now, I had proposed to hubby that we go out of town again, just like the past years. As soon as he consented to my out of town proposal, I delegated to daughter the planning and bookings. I originally wanted to go to Palawan but daughter wasn’t amenable coz she already has booked Palawan with her friends for January. So we leave all the planning to her. She brought up Davao to us and we agreed. Thus booking is done in a breeze! So far she’s still working on our itinerary, looking for the good places to see. We don’t want to regret not having seen one good place in Davao. So if ever any of you guys have been there or are from Davao yourself, kindly drop me a few lines about the best places we should not miss in Davao! Can’t wait for Saturday to come! Ciao!

Alas, my Page Rank is gone! For some time, this blog was enjoying a PR3, although it has also seen better days with a PR4 for fairly long period. While I have been forewarned by a blogger friend (hi, Huling!) about the bad news that my PR will go back to zero as a result of my switching to a custom domain blog, I was still surprised in a way when I saw my PR Checker widget showing a PR 0/10 the following morning. I was upset because I didn’t imagine that it will transpire as rapidly as it had. I suppose as soon as blogger friend left her comment, the disappearance of my PR3 commenced. Mr Google plays killjoy once again, a kind of bummer! But kudos to my blogger friend, PinayWAHM for being a psychic! Lol! Just didn't know she has sixth sense! Wink!

It wasn’t clear what comes to my mind when I decided to transform this blogspot.com blog into a custom domain blog. I had long wanted a dot com site alright but I intend to get it for my other blog and not for this one. Maybe the intense desire to have a custom domain for my blog is the reason why I quickly followed the seemingly simple instructional details on how to change my present URL into a dot com address. After going through the process, I think I did well coz it’s now brandishing a brand new dot com address. Hooray! I was able to do it on my own!! Good job! (Patting my own back now. haha!)

On the contrary, I doubt if I really did the right thing. I mean.. on turning this into a dot.com blog . Because right after the URL changed, the Google Friend Connect links disappeared luckily though, it showed up again after a while. Then the blogroll links is nowhere to be found. I’m just hoping it will come back too like the Google Friend Connect links. It's been days but looks like it has no plan of coming back. I'm now wondering how I would start gathering those long list of blogger buddies links again! Mind helping me?

I first saw this fashion jewelry displayed in a showcase in Landmark, Trinoma. I wanted to buy it right there and then but I was taken aback upon seeing the tag price. It’s an Anne Klein Charm swarovsky silver tone bracelet alright but I think it’s a bit overpriced at Php7900.so had to forego the desire. At home, I described to daughter the item I fancy. She took something inside her room and brought it out to me. “Is it like this?” Showing me an exactly similar bracelet. I learned it was a gift from the boyfriend. I was green-eyed! I saw it too in the internet but had qualms ordering online if not thru paypal. Then, I saw one in Royal Duty Free in Subic. But had a second thought coz it’s still priced higher than those in the net. When I heard that my sis was in Subic weeks ago, I requested her to buy it for me and will just reimburse her. However, when she was about to buy it, I backed out again (for the nth time! hehe). Ooh lah lah.. yeah, that’s me! This time, very fickle minded and has gotten over the OCD! Lol! Umm.. are you now bored with my long story? Hehe.. please don’t be. Hold on a li’l more! Haha!

So let me continue.. last week, my US Navy nephew and his family arrived from the US for short visit and for their baby’s baptism. We went to see them in Bataan. After long updating, daughter raised her own arm along with my NIL’s, (nephew’s wife) showing me the identical twin bracelets they were wearing. Yes, they both have the same bracelet I’m longing to have. I was told it was also a gift from her hubby, my nephew. After knowing that it’s cheaper in the US Naval Base, I asked her if she can buy me one from there to be reimursed upon delivery and she readily agreed! Then we all met again in the cemetery last Sunday. Iya, my NIL, announced she has a surprise for me as she handed me one small black suede pocket. When I opened, it was the bracelet nephew gave her. She said she decided to give it to me coz she knew I wanted it so much and it will take a long time before she can deliver my request. Aware that it was a gift from her hubby, I was a bit adamant to accept but she insisted. Nothing to worry she said. And how can I refuse my ever coveted Anne Klein Charm bracelet. This niece-in-law of mine truly knows how to please people most especially us, her in-laws! Lol! I was overwhelmed! I'm pretty sure, she knew how much she made my day!

People here in the house are Shakey’s Pizza fanatics especially the big kiddos. Yesterday, being another lazy Sunday with nothing much to do (umm..there were lots of work actually, only we prefer to ignore. haha!) daughter ordered to deliver a buy one take one family size pizza, 5pc chicken and box of mojos using her supercard from Shakey’s. It arrived 15 minutes late. Since daughter was quite unsure if she would demand the late delivered pizzas be for free, she opted to ask the delivery guy what they’re gonna do coz he's 15 mins late.

Btw, just in case you do not know, Shakey’s' very popular promo tagline is “If it’s late, it’s free.”
Meaning, they give you the exact time to expect the arrival of delivery. The alloted time allowance is
45 min. to 1 hour. And if they exceed that time, you get your order for free. As daughter was
already really hungry, she wanted to get it on time. She made sure her time is synchronised with theirs and timed them.

And as I was saying, daughter ordered pizza and it arrived 15 minutes late. The delivery guy
was himself unsure on how to respond to daughter’s query. Looks like he's new on his job
or could be that this is his first time that someone is demandingthey keep to their word/slogan.
After a brief explanation, he just asked for the receipt to be signed then informed daughter to
expect a call from their store manager for whatever would be the resolution. The call took place,
but only to verify time involved. Then nothing else ensued.
Hence, daughter’s pizza blow-out turned out to be Shakey’s blow-out. Woot!

On the hindsight, daughter wasn't really that serious in getting the free pizza. But on the contrary,
who wouldn't want one if allowed. Right? She was only toying around to the idea of "what if".
The truth is, she didn't believe that they would keep to their word/slogan. But to her surprise,
they did! Without any argument or debate! Through that they earned our admiration! And
got to love Shakey's Pizza all the more!

Thought of posting here this touching video shared by my niece thru Fb. I sensed a lump on my throat after watching it. I felt the care but more than anything else I felt her fears. Because you see, she unfortunately caught the big C gene from me. Grateful it didn't leave her disfigured, but she's been diagnosed nevertheless. She learned about it last year. I know, she’s a strong woman and a fighter in life. She’s been thru a lot and surpassed them all. However, I thoroughly understand that no matter how emotionally, mentally and physically tough one can be, the thought of the big C assault could be enough to topple the mighty strength in one’s being. I know precisely her worries and the anxieties that dwell in her once in a while. It could be pretty hard at times but I know damn well that all those fears will soon pass by. And with God's blessing, together with the love and care of the family and friends; I'd confidently say, OUR battle is won.

A couple of years back, I arduously put up another blog. It set sights on sharing updates on breast cancer and overall health in general. It was fed a few number of posts, but due to some reasons, it never was given much attention until ultimately, I decided to permanently delete the said blog. Hmmn... well, I just come to remember about it because we are now in the month of October and it was this Breast Cancer Awareness Month that gave me the idea to create that health blog. But “The Pink Blog” now is deleted! So carelessly and unthinkingly! Ugh! Then, regrets!

I, myself is unsure what was running in my head that time which pushes me to click the delete button. I should have just left it all by itself, even if dormant. But it’s over and done! I wish I could find time to create a new and better one with sustainable entries. I really want to have my own domain so perhaps, I need to start to look into a web hosting directory and read those web hosting reviews to find the right website hosting for me. Creating my blog in my own domain is kinda techy task for me. I certainly need some assistance on this. But who knows? I may know how to execute it on my own. Let’s wait and see!

What’s with the Pink Ribbon? The Pink Ribbon is the international symbol of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future and the charitable kindness of individuals and businesses that visibly support the breast cancer movement. It is intended to inspire solidarity with women who have breast cancer.

Now that it’s October, being the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there are various activities being held everywhere in the world to support breast cancer advocacy. Likewise, you can find a number of bazaars promoting countless products claiming proceeds of sales will go to charitable institutions that support patients with breast cancer. Well and good if they do! I just hope that these so called charitable institutions are not just taking advantage of the funds entrusted to them by the real good Samaritans who only want nothing but to alleviate the conditions of the breast cancer patients.

As a breast cancer survivor myself, it is my fervent wish that breast cancer or any kind of cancer for that matter, will soon be eradicated from the face of the earth. ...and all those afflicted especially the one person very dear to me, will triumph against the monstrous disease!

Yes, I was ... to the highest level ! So while the original driver of the car (hubby) was out on his regular weekend biking spree, I made a date with SIL and asked son to drive us to Ortigas. SIL’s daughter and her own family are staying in a condo unit in one high rise building in that Pasig Business Center. They got a swimming pool on the roof deck which is the 39th floor and that was my target. ‘Twas quite a long time since I last took a dip in a pool. Finding a space to park in the area was tough so we decided to bring the car to the nearby Robinsons Galleria’s basement. After which, we looked for some foodstuff. It was already lunchtime and didn’t want to bother the couple for our meal. We picked roasted chicken, grilled boneless bangus and green salad along with big sodas and packs of chips. Glad that everyone enjoyed the simple lunch then no time was wasted and we headed to the roof top. The pool was all ours except for one or two. They didn’t stay long anyway so the place was enjoyed well. Heavy rainfall and cold breeze didn’t stop me from enjoying the dip. It even added more fun! I wish I own the roof deck. It mav only be a small one, but I love the pool.

As many of you know, I have this sort of addiction to Peking Ducks or even to just ordinary fried itik. And as one, I was lured to bite this Peking Duck Kinulob promo deal! Eh, why wouldn’t I? I was seeing a very luscious looking Peking duck! No rehab yet for my kind of addiction, hence, no controlling to grabbing one whenever possible. I bought two (2) vouchers for Php297 each, though it's kinda expensive. I remember having bought fried ducks in Victoria, Laguna when we passed by that town a year ago. The taste was A-okay for the very cheap price of only Php190 each. Seeing this SaveonPinoy promo deal photo, I expected it to be a li'l better since it is labelled as Peking Duck

They gave three (3) locations to pick up the product. Caltex station in NAIA Rd, Pque., Caltex in Alabang and Caltex in SLEX. The last location is just right I thought, since we planned to go to Tagaytay on a weekend. Unfortunately, this Tagaytay plan didn’t push through thus, picking-up the product became a problem for me. We’re from the farthest north of MetroManila while this Peking duck kinulob pick up points are all in the south. It was an issue with my “personal driver”. He wanted to just let it go as it is not worth the long trip. But the addict in me, wouldn't agree. He gave-in at the end

We drove the long road to Paranaque and reached the mentioned gasoline station. I looked for the store with Perry's Peking Duck signage inside the gas station area but didn’t see one. “What’s this? Am I deceived again? “ I worriedly asked myself. I inquired one gas-boy and he pointed me to a closed one-way mirrored glass door that looks like an abandoned stock room. Afterwhich a lady came out and confirmed she's with Perry's. She asked for the voucher and went to the adjacent stockroom looking place. When she came out, she handed me two (2) of this:

Looks deliciously juicy in their promo photo thus I wanted to try even if the price is a bit expensive. Not bad, if to try only once anyway. So I asked how much and I was surprised to hear her say "175ps po per 500gram." Haha! Ridiculous! Did you see its price in the photo above?

I immediately bought a pack and she handed me this.

I have cooked and ate this Hugarian Turkey sausage and in fairness, found it good. Sad though that I forgot to take photo after it's been cooked.

Again, I learnt another lesson in grabbing deals from these group buying sites. Not all are real bargains!
But as long as it won't leave remarkable damage, it's just fine with me. Woot!

Beware to deal with Metrodeal

I’m sure most of you are aware of the rapid mushrooming of Group Buying sites. Here in the Philippines, there are a good number of them which have successfully established a name. Amongst those is Metrodeal. I have bought a voucher from this site before because the price was so enticingly low apart from the fact that travel promos are a bit hard to resist for me. Likewise, it is stated in their website that they will refund the amount paid in case the customer changed mind. That gives a feeling of security to customers like me. The first deal was delivered quite smoothly with only insignificant snags on booking. I won’t deny that we enjoyed that Casa Ibiza promo l bought from them. Thus, when I saw the El Nido Palawan advert for Php9,900 for a 3D/2N accommodation, airport transfers, island hopping, etc. for 2/pax , no batting of eyelash, I paid for two (2) vouchers amounting to Php19,800. through Paypal. Deal was completed in a breeze. Payment was confirmed by Paypal and acknowledged by Metrodeal in just few minutes.

How excited I was with the great deal I got! Or so I thought. Unluckily, it turned out that the mentioned accommodation in the purchased Promo isn’t worth the price I paid. It’s only a cheap cottage/Inn by the beach and not a hotel that I expected it to be. What do you think should be my next action? Of course, I immediately emailed them and demanded refund! Got an automatic reply that says they will attend to my inquiries within the next working day. Zilch reply after that! I religiously followed up thru emails each day but was only totally ignored until I realized they really wouldn’t want to release the money they already have in their hands. I then requested for convertion from El Nido to Apo Island, Dumaguete deal with same value. How quickly they replied with matching smiley emoticon thanking me for patronizing Metrodeal. So, I was right! They really wouldn’t want to part with my money. I thought that ended my problem. ..but no! I was back to my nerve-wracking moments when the voucher for the converted deal was nowhere to be found. Endless emails were sent again everyday but to no avail. They were on a "Hide n Seek" mode once more. Then I panicked. Don't want to think I just blew my money away! Anxiety engulfed my being. Boiling mad inside, I sent a number of furious letters reiterating payment refund. Made clear to them that I don’t want any deal conversion anymore. I only want my payment back, no more, no less!! Then to my surprise, the vouchers became available in an instant! See? It’s that simple to issue the voucher but took them ages to have it done?! Thanks but no thanks! Didn't accept it. Don’t want to deal with them any further. Enough is enough! All I want is to get my money back. Then they can add me to the long list of irate customers they had. As I've discovered them here,

Yesterday, I received Paypal’s notification of Metrodeals refund for two (2) Php9,900. or a total of Php19,800. Hallelujah!! I think notifying Paypal and my Credit card bank about the dispute helped in a way. Nonetheless, despite those stressful days and sleepless nights I went through with this group buying site, I wanna thank them still because they taught me a big lesson. I'd be very cautious to transact business online next time around. And not to commit mistake of dealing with Metrodeal again. Not even with the most tempting offer! No way!

Something good out of scrap

If you’re gonna ask what occupied my time all these week, I’d say nothing has changed a bit. I spent each day doing the laundry and fixing bits and pieces in the house plus looked after the cabinet maker who fixed our old TV cabinet. The new TV doesn't fit well with the old design so it needed some alterations. I thought it would take him one whole day to work on that TV table but I was amazed when he was over and done with in just few hours. With much time remaining for the day’s contract, I saw some pieces of woods dumped in the garage and ask him if he can make a center table out of it. I gave him my design and surprisingly, he finished it in the remaining half of the day. I was quite impressed with the work so I gave him a little extra. Can’t believe a fine and sturdy center table can still be produced with those scrap pieces of woods. Nice feeling to be praised for some good ideas created and finding one good carpenter worth recommending to friends.

It's past 2am now, got to retire to bed. Good night/morning everyone!

Old friends meet again

Thanks to the internet! I found a long lost friend through FB. She was an officemate, a “barkada” (a close friend) a witness to our civil wedding, which goes to say that she is our Ninang and also a secondary sponsor in our church wedding. I’ve long been searching for her and other friends in the net but so far, found only her and few other friends whom we have spent carefree youthful moments together. Sadly, one or two have already passed away and one girl friend seems not be interested in us anymore. The cold shoulder response really breaks my heart! Well anyway, my friend and I finally met again after more than three decades of no communication. I learned they are now based in Guam and periodically visit the country for business matters. We agreed to meet at the Dusit Thani Hotel Lobby last Saturday night with our husbands then proceed to RJ Bistro which is now housed in the hotel.

Three decades passed stealthily. You can just imagine the transformation of two young girls in their early and mid-20’s to oldie moms now in their golden years. Haha!.. I know, the lines on our faces betray the years that passed by. Hmmn... but who cares?! Not the two of us that I know of! Honestly though, I truly appreciate the sight of her. I know I have really missed her along with the time we spent with other remarkable people that touched our lives. It was one stage of my youthful life that I sincerely loved and enjoyed. The active, fun days of 70-‘s ...disco hopping, ...movie watching, ...baseball and basketball games cheering, ...night swimming, ...bump car rides in the then newly opened Harizon Plaza, and many other "happenings" which is now referred to as "gimiks" of todays' generation!

I still yearn to be in those places we used to frequent but more likely than not, some of those don't exist anymore. I only wish I could have a time machine to traverse me back to that period of joyful camaraderie, and special bonds we once had. It was indeed one hell of a time for us!

With all those reminiscences... this Beatles song comes to mind. I feel a slight pinch in my heart as I listen to it! Oh yeah, ...I know I'll often stop and think about them..!

i.ph sucks

I started my first blog almost 4 years ago in another free website host named "i.ph". After creating a blog site for me, hubby taught me the how to’s of blogging and then eventually, paid blogging. It was fun learning things at the same time earning. It was “a season of plenty” then, I was getting quite a lot of ad offers, one after another until some advertisers revised their paid ops scheme and just about the same time, my blog site turned difficult to manage. The used to be plenty now appear in trickles.

Well, I have to admit that I still am in the process of discovering the pros and cons of this blogging world. And since I was left here now on my own, I am grasping for every good opportunity that could explain on how or what to do with the bummer website host of my other blog. Yes, it sucks. It really sucks! It loads so verrrrry slow that oftentimes it brings you to error 404 pages. I guess that’s what happened when the latest advertiser checked the paid article it has already approved days ago. It has expressed disappointment as it continually fails to load my blog. And what do you think happened next? The advertiser then placed the approved post on probation within 30 days. Hmmp.. WTH is happening to .i.ph?! It even placed a huge annoying pop-up ads which prompted the Entrecard management to delete my blog from its registry. Grrrr!... I could have utter invictives for too much irritation! I’m now contemplating on getting my own domain. But honestly though, I have no idea on how to get one. Or better still, a good one that’s not heavy on my pocket.

Moving my i.ph blog in a new domain is the best thing to do I guess.

Mind sending some good tips on how and where to acquire my own domain? Geez, dying to have one asap!

Another celebration

Last Wednesday, July 20, another year was added to my age. Hmmn.. no stopping to wrinkles and all but am ever so grateful that I am given the chance to grow old! Ain't it that at the end, it's not the years in your life that count but the life in your years?! I praise God for all the blessings and for all the people who care!

We went out for lunch in the newly opened branch of Kowloon Restaurant in Commonwealth Ave. Thanks to hubby for always making all our birthdays a no work holiday for him. Even if there were only the three of us, (with son coz daughter couldn't make it.)they're enough to make my day. We were complete by dinner time and about to go out but it rained. Thus, the a pizza and chicken delivery. Plus the small birthday cake from daughter completes the day!

It was another simple celebration with family. Whenever it is with family, I'm more than happy!

Casa Ibiza-Antipolo: A small, quiet place

I'm back buddies! Yes, I know! It’s been a long time without showing up here. Blame it to the voluminous household chores that eternally keep on coming and eating up my drive to write. Or could this be plain indolence? Uh, maybe!!. Coz at the end of the day after all the works are done, all I wanna do is rest my body and sleep. In my mind, a break was all I wanted. Good thing, I have grabbed a Casa Ibiza promo voucher from MetroDeal few months back so my family availed it last weekend.

Casa Ibiza is a small quiet place in the innermost section of burgeoning subdivisions in Antipolo. It’s accommodation units they call villas are like cute townhouses with two tiny bedrooms and a regular room, a small living room with LCD Tv, small dining room and kitchen with ref. (with no use coz bringing in food is prohibited) The beddings are sparkling white, fresh and clean. It has two toilets and baths which are equally dirt-free that come with clean white towels and toiletries.

They have a resto that serves good food though a bit pricey. The price of a cup of coffee (in sachets) is 60php while a bottle of SMBeer is 35 php. Hmmn.. shouldn't it be the other way around? A coffee for 35 and beer for 60php? Just seems not fair eh. Well, anyway, you have to order food few hours in advance. Bringing in food as I've said, is prohibited so you have no choice but to have your meals in their restaurant or drive out and look for a good place to eat. We arrived there before 12 nn not knowing they don’t allow check-ins before 2pm. Hence after registering, we drove back to the town proper and had lunch in Max’s.

Back to Casa Ibiza, we rounded the very small place and we couldn’t help but smile. It is too far from what we expected. Nonetheless, we’re happy with the find. It’s got what we want. ...comfy accommodation, (three bedrooms with an aircon each), and a clean, clear watered swimming pool (although it’s just a small one). But as I’ve mentioned, there’s no regret coz it’s a cute, peaceful place perfect for relaxation!

Hearty Dinner at Peking Garden-Trinoma

Last Sunday, we had a clear day. No rain! Hooray! My vacationing MIL finally was able to go out. (She’s very cautious about getting wet by the rain.) We picked them up and went to have dinner. Hubby drove to Trinoma. Then asked where we would want to eat. When I’m in Trinoma, I only have few usual restos in mind. Those that are good ones but not too pricey. But he led us to Peking Garden, (a posh Chinese Resto,) instead, . Just for a change, according to him. We have eaten in Peking Garden in Glorietta a number of times before. And I think, that’s when I started to always crave for Peking Duck. Cravings that even in my dreams while asleep, that fave food of mine exists. Hubby perhaps had much of my nagging request for this special Chinese cuisine that’s why he brought us here.

It was a delightful dinner, no doubt about it! Although the bill we paid was quite enormous for the number of dishes we had, there's no regret. Even if the price of Peking Duck keeps going up, (now priced 2,200.00 php for a whole that we had) I think I’d still be coming back here, though not as frequent as I want to for they sure would drain hubby's wallet. Lol! Eating in Peking Garden is like eating in a fine Resto in Hongkong. Allow me to declare that this is "The Best Local Chinese Restaurant"! Well, that’s as far as I’m concerned. To each his own! Right?

How time flies quickly! Can't believe it’s already. . .

Bring in some fanfare music! Lol! Only 184 days remain in the current calendar year and before we know it, the 100 days Christmas countdown will be aired in every TV Channels and radio stations. Well, that’s how fast the days go. We're halfway now to year 2012!! Actually, I don’t understand why time passes by quicker now that I am older, than when I was much, much younger. Sometimes, I still find myself talking about the time when my kiddos were toddlers like it was just few years back. Until it would just dawn on me that it was already way too far ago! OMG! It’s real, I’m truly getting old! There’s no stopping to wrinkles coming my way. Huhu.. But hey! on the contrary, with wrinkles and all, I feel so blessed. Not many of my colleagues reached this age, let alone kick cancer's ass like I did. (Of course, it's by God's grace!) Just can't contain my happiness coz there’s much to be thankful for!

Again, here's to remind one and all that LIFE IS SHORT! Let’s not fuss about non-sensible matters. Spend each day like it’s the last. Stop being stingy but instead be generous with ... LOVE!

Finally got the result

I had always postponed going back to the hospital for the result of my lab test. It’s because I have been too busy with the household chores since my angel left for good a week ago. I don’t know why, but I wasn’t so anxious anymore as I was before the lab test. I simply don’t worry about it that I didn’t have the urge to see the result quickly. I just requested hubby to pick it up for me in his free time. And this morning, I saw this paper on top of my lappy. It’s the result!

Couldn’t help but utter: OH, THANK YOU MY LORD!

Both the CEA and CA 15-3 tumor counts have gone back to its very normal state. Woo hoo! Obviously, my hunch is right! I was right not being troubled thinking about it. Going back to my Onco to show the result should be SOP but I’d rather break it this time. I’d just see her next month for my next regular check up. Weeeh!! . . .

Btw, thank you so much for all your prayers! Prayers really work.

Pass up some lab exams

Have gone to my Onco. She requested for my blood chem exams which includes test for uric acid level. She didn’t warn me about fasting. Nevertheless, I abstained after dinner just to be sure. Meaning, I didn’t have anything in my mouth since 9pm until the time I was in the extraction room the next morning. Perhaps she considered I already knew. But there were too many kinds of blood tests being done to me before which makes it hard to remember which one needed fasting. Now, only few blood details are needed which includes CEA and CA 15-3; the test for tumor counts. Actually, I was the one who asked for these coz I was alarmed by the slight increase in the tumor count as seen in the last result. Although my Onco has assured me that there’s nothing to worry about since it’s still within normal level, I’m still bothered by the change. So she agreed. Maybe just to pacify me.

I was at the hospital lab early last Friday. But there were too many patients ahead of me. When my number was called in the extraction room, it was already 11:00 AM. The Med tech asked it I did my fasting. I answered yes. But when she learned about the lenght of time I fasted, she declined to go on with the blood extraction. It’s been way too long, she said. My uric acid had shoot up for sure. The time required for fasting is only 6 hours. But the tests for CEA and CA 15-3 need no fasting so I went on with it.

The abdominal ultrasound, which I thought was due wasn’t due yet. My Onco wants me to have it on the actual sched which is next month. I mentioned the pains I have once in a while in my right side abdomen. She advised that I observe it first. If it persists and is severe, I can come back to her. But if not, I'd go through the normal sched of this lab exam. Fortunately, I don’t feel the pain anymore. Nonetheless, am still keeping watch on it.

The Med tech handled the extraction expertly. Didn't feel the needle at all.

I haven’t obtained the results yet. Still praying it'll be good.

Seeing my Onco today

Been enjoying the outdoor for a while now that I almost neglected my health work-up sked this month of June. I’ll be seeing my Onco today to ask for my regular laboratory exams request. Can’t help but be anxious for the results as I ‘ve had a once in while darting pain in my right side abdomen . I hope and pray it’s nothing serious.

Anyway, I think nothing can stop me from keeping an eye on an airline’s fare promo as well as Boracay Resort’s promo deals. Travel and leisure aren’t so expensive these days anyhow! Travel promos pop up every now and then. My itcy feet are raring to step on those powdery white sands and crystal clear blue waters. Hoping to catch one good deal soon!

World's Shortest Man is a Filipino

It’s confirmed! Guiness World Records has declared 18 year old, Junrey Balawing as the Worlds Smallest Man. The boy/man is from Sindangan, Zamboanga and measures 23.5 inches (60 centimeters). Balawing has the size of a toddler and the demeanor of a child. He took over the record from Kagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal who measures 26.4 inches.

Balawing came from a very poor family. He is in the Guiness Book alright but the crown doesn’t come with any cash reward. Hopefully , his popularity will bring him blessings of gifts and cash from Donors all over the globe to help him and his family support his medical needs. (Read here .).

Glimpse of Antipolo

My MIL long wanted to go to Antipolo Church since she came back from Autralia last April. She finally got her wish when we drove for her there last Saturday. We reached the place almost noontime, thus we decided to make a stop at one of the nice looking restaurants along the highway first before proceeding to the Church. (Very unorthodox indeed! he he..) The name of the place is Romeo’s. It is quite big, like a huge veranda overlooking metro manila. In those kinds of eating places, it’s already expected to find only native dishes on their menu. Many of the dishes listed are everyday recipes at home. But there were few that I haven’t tasted yet, let alone cooked. Like Ginataang Pagi. (Sting ray in Coconut milk). And other kinds of fish, which name escaped my mind. MIL said she missed the Pesang Dalag (Mudfish) ‘cause they don’t have it Australia. She didn't know, I missed it too!

To cut it short, our lunch was a success! We were full and satisfied. It wasn't cheap nor so expensive, but relatively acceptable and the food was rated satisfactory by the group (hubby, mil, sil, aunt, cousin, grandson, and me).After attending mass, I thought of visiting and inspecting Casa Ibiza. A resort we are to visit soon. However, we got lost and didn't find the way to the mentioned resort so we went straight home. Anyway, another mission was accomplished. And many more to go!

Wishing for another kitchen makeover

Our little house underwent some repairs and renovation a year ago. As some of you know, I have posted about its construction and how tough it was to supervise workers . Fortunately, the renovation was done without any hitch and I can say I did well on a task which is supposedly not a woman’s job. The husband and the big kiddos were happy with the result. I’m glad with that! But looking at my kitchen now, I regret not having replaced the ceramic tiles with a longer lasting granite together with an undermount sink that goes well with the latter. Hmmm.. had I seen those excellent quality undermount sinks from M R Direct, it would have been a different story for my kitchen. But who knows? The family’s financial resources might soon afford another kitchen makeover! And if that happens, I definitely would deal with M R Direct!

One Gorgeous Summer Almost Wasted in Phi Phi Beach Resort

How do I begin now? After hibernating for quite a long while from blogosphere, it seems so taxing to find how and where to start. Have been ~~busy~~ lazy for a long while and now, my brain needs some oiling to strip off the toxic rusts that seem to cling ever so tightly in my head. Lol! Oh my!

Anyways, don’t you find it so frustrating that summer is almost over? I still intend to savour more of the sun and the beach but the antagonistic rainy season is slowly showing its arrogance. It’s a good thing, I was able to enjoy some sunny days in Phi Phi Beach Resort just recently with the family. And if you’d ask where the hell that resort is, it is in the forever easy to access beach town of Morong, Bataan, our favorite beach town, wherelse?

But hey, don’t get me misunderstood! I did enjoy the sunny days on the beach but definitely not the resort itself. It's still fine, anyway, coz it has always been a hit and miss for us anyhow, as we only depend on the internet to find our beach resort destination. I must make mention here however, for the benefit of those who’s planning to visit this resort, that this Phi Phi Hotel and Beach Resort absolutely did not meet our expectation. With a soaring high room rate of 6,400php plus additional 500php for the extra pax per night, my two thumbs are down for them! And why not?!! They squeezed in layered beds good for 12 people in a space that is normally good for four. Although we were only nine adults and a child, we imagined a much bigger room since we were charged much higher. But then again, to complain was useless. My sis has already paid the 50% reservation fee. One thing more, they claim it to be a hotel. Shame on them! Hotels provide towels and toiletries, in this supposedly hotel/resort you won’t find any! Well.. well!

I’m just thankful that the clan is always bright and breezy! Never was there a dull moment being together. Perhaps it was the result of eating too many delicious Chicken caldereta and oodles of creamy and cheesy Carbonara that my nephew and his wife prepared. Ha ha.. Great to have crazy clan! Lol! Our weekend getaway in Phi Phi Beach Resort wasn’t totally wasted! Thank goodness!

Mom's Day Celebration at Teriyaki Boy

Last Sunday was Mother's Day! And what's so special with the day? For me, nothing actually! It's just another day! But I would have wanted to make it special for hubby's mother, or my beloved MIL! So I bought her a little gift that I planned to give while we're out on dinner. Sadly though, she didn't come along because it was raining. She doesn't want to jeopardize her weak health, according to SIL Oh well.. Thus, we were all by ourselves, me and my family, dining out to celebrate my day, or should I say, our day, as a Mom (or Moms)!

We decided not to go far after learning that MIL and SIL won't come with us. The mall nearby has lots of good eating places to choose from. After some deliberation on which resto to go to, Teriyaki Boy made it. It's one of our fave restos when it comes to Japanese food.

That's how my family celebrated Mother's Day with me. Thanks to hubby and the big kiddos for another day of special bonding!

Good Lunch in Aristocrat, Subic

Still on our long holiday escapade, I wouldn't wan't to miss posting here the long delayed lunch we should have had in a park in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. Since my sis had already prepared food for our Iba beach outing but Iba was yet way too far for lunch, we thought of stopping over in Subic and just bring out the food my sis had packed. We drove around searching for a nice place for our impromptu picnic but couldn't find a good one. I was already very hungry then. Thus, when I saw the Aristocrat Resturant from afar, I asked the group if they want to eat in Aristocrat instead. Almost in chorus, they responded affirmatively. So, we were in Aristocrat in no time. If my memory serves me right, we were also there last year after our Potipot Island Holy Week vacation. Likewise, the many times before, everytime we drove to Subic. Seems like we're becoming a regular patron of this restaurant. Maybe because we love their food and the cozy ambience. Above all, prices are fair and affordable.

Seafront Beach Resort: Not worth the long travel.

Two days and one night of our long weekend holiday were spent in Seafront Beach Resort in Iba, Zambales. That's after we passed by Las Casas in Bagac, Bataan. Sis reserved a room for us via the internet, hence she relied on what is shown on their website alone. When we reached the place, we were sort of disappointed to find out that those attractive photos featured in the website were not as attractive actually. It's only a very small resort with a beach that isn't so nice. We later found out from the receptionist that the resort is owned by infamous personality that is Dennis Roldan. Yeah, I know him! He's a former movie actor, Congressman, then later incarcerated for a criminal case of kidnapping. He was always in the news before. The receptionist was even so proud to mention to us that Dennis and Mikey Arroyo, the former presidential son, are closed buddies. Hmmn..so??! Dennis was there in the resort, but didn't bother to get near him.

Well, back to my rants on Seafront, the resort that wasn't worth the long travel.. How silly I am to expect the water as enticing as of the waters of Potipot Island. We should have had travelled few kilometers more and we could have been in Potipot. Anyway, we know now! We sure won't make mistake of going back to that resort again!

Discovering Las Casas Filipinas in Bagac, Bataan

It's been quite a long while since my last entry. Got few paid ops offer but didn't have time to do. I just hope I won't get blacklisted. Sigh! I'm now back to the usual household tasks again after the well treated "angel" extended her Holy Week vacay in her hometown in the far North. Not sure yet when she's gonna come back. .(or does she have any plan of coming back at all? I dunno! ...my oh my!!)

Anyway, at least I was able to enjoy the long weekend holiday. My itchy feet would not settle for a simple rest at home! ha ha! My family, together with daughter's friend who took over the wheel headed to Sis' place. If you would ask why didn't hubby drive for us, well, he was on the road ahead of us on his bike from our place in Novaliches all the way to Balanga, Bataan! That's about 123 Km distance, if I'm not mistaken. Well, that's his passion for now. He's happy with it, let him be! Just like the one TV commercial line that goes.. "kung saan ka masaya, suportahan ta ka!" (I'll support you on whatever makes you happy!)

As I was saying, I'm thankful that Sis' home is always open for us. It was always like a feast with all the good food she prepared for us! My mouth still gets watery everytime I think of what we had while we were in her house. Big crabs, prawns, seafood kare-kare, and all except pork. Ha ha.. she knows I'm avoiding pork, that's why! Can't thank her enough!.

I'm sure I have already mentioned before that the Province of Bataan oozes with beautiful beaches and historical sites. Up to this moment, gorgeous resorts keep popping everywhere. The latest amongst those is the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar located in Bagac, Bataan. I'm thankful that Sis got a membership card to this awesome resort and the benefits are being shared to us. The development of this first class resort is still on-going but almost complete. Every house constructed is a clone of the houses of the past from late 19th to early 20th century. My hat's off to the people who conceptualized this antique houses' village. They brought forth the time of our ancestors for the present generation to feel and see. It's quite hard to explain the feeling while I walked the paths of cobblestones and antique street lamps while my jaw dropped in admiration to those grand old houses. In addition, they have swimming pools and well maintained beach which are another exciting attractions for tourists. Anyone who'll visit this place will be awestruck like us and would surely come back again and again and again!!,

The first time was on noontime of Friday, April 22 and the second one was when we came back on afternoon of Sunday, April 24. The other days were spent on a beach in Iba, Zambales. Nevertheless, that calls for another page of blogging.

Postscript: Marina Bay Esplanade, Singapore

We visited Marina Bay on the second day of our Singapore getaway. I purposely didn’t include this itinerary in my past entry simply because I thought I got too many shots to share.that would need exclusive posting. Unfortunately though, my lappy crashed then I learned that the hard disk has to be replaced. It goes to say that all the documents stored in it will be irretrievable including the tons of photos I had saved. Good thing I was able to upload some in the net before it crashed and few I was able to snatched from the big kiddos albums.

Anyway, we scheduled our visit to Marina Bay late in the afternoon so as to catch sight of the place in both daytime and nighttime. We first looked for the Merlion Park, where the popular icon is located. We walked from end to end around the bay looking for the famous icon but we were haplessly disappointed to find that the Lion mermaid was enclosed by the makeshift Five Star Merlion Hotel. We were so disheartened to have made a visit on the wrong time! What we saw was just the tail of the famous statue underneath the hotel. We had to content ourselves with the new small version of it raised on a nearby park.

Overall, Marina Bay is undeniably breathtaking and mesmerizing! Located around the vicinity were the Durian like Esplanade Auditorium, numerous skyscrapers which include Fullerton Hotel and the most prominent of them all, the Marina Bay Sands and SkyPark. So marvelous by daytime and utterly awesome by night. Striking lights and water show starts as soon as it gets dark. Beam rays of dazzling colors hit the sky from the towering SkyPark to various directions. It is spectacularly captivating as it blends with all the other colorful lights around the promenade. I can only wish we had more time to stay on such splendid place overnight!

We were supposed to try the Singapore Flyer located in a distance despite the price being a little expensive (which includes meal).. However I was surprised when daughter backed out and chose not to push through the acrophobic ride. I only learned the reason why when we reached Marina Bay Mall. She asked me to pay for her shopped items insinuating that she helped me saved a lot from that expensive ride. Ha ha.. wise decision in a way!

Singapore Day 4: Orchard Road, Suntec, Airport

It’s kind of melancholic to face the day knowing that it’s gonna be the last day to relish the wonderful place that is Singapore! How quick 4days/3nights were! We spent the few hours left strolling down the shopping area of Orchard Road and Suntec City. The kiddos got themselves some shirts, caps and other personal stuff. Guess what I picked for myself? Guess! Yes, a Guess handbag it is! I found it in OG Orchard. This department store show cases lots of high end brands of shoes and bags but I had to ignore Otherwise, I’ll resort to using my credit cards. Ha ha..! That’s what I’ve been proud of myself this time. I didn’t use my cards even when I was very much tempted to. Well, I may not have ransacked the shopping malls but I’m very glad that I won’t be expecting any credit card bills coming next billing month. What a relief for hubby! Lol!

Singapore Day 3: Universal Studios

I must say that the primary reason for our trip to Singapore was to see Universal Studios. Nevertheless, we were more than delighted to have seen other marvelous attractions this “tiny red dot country” presents. Three nights and four days were definitely not enough to cover the countless attractive and fun places it offers. You need to stay longer to enjoy more! On the contrary, even only with the very brief stint, it was extremely fulfilling and satisfying getting the feel of that Singapore experience!

First and foremost in our plan was to get to USS early on a weekday. The reason of which was, #1: the ticket is cheaper and #2.: the place would probably be not too crowded. Evidently, we were wrong on presuming the latter. Despite our early arrival, we were stunned to see the place already crammed and rocking!

Singapore Day 2: Little India, HarbourFront/Vivo City, Sentosa & Bugis Street

On our second day in Singapore, I thought I woke up too early but I soon realized the darkness that seems to convey early dawn was only deceiving. It was already 8 am and the 3 kiddos were yet in deep slumber. When they rouse, they prepared for the day’s itinerary right away and we were able to reach our first line of destination on the scheduled time

We took the bus to Little India before noon. Under the heat of the sun, we explored this old district of Singapore. We passed by Little India Arcade where handicrafts, arts, and Indian culture are blaring. Magazines covered by Bollywood celebrities as well as CD’s and DVD’s of Indian movies and music were all over the sidewalks. There was again another Hindu Temple like what we/ve seen in Chinatown. Of course, this wasn’t surprising as we were in the district of Little India. We only peeped in as there were too many worshipers coming. There are also countless goldsmiths and jewelry shops along Serangoon Road. Then I smelled something distinct. Sniffing.. it's curried cuisine! The big kiddos wanted to try Indian fare but I wasn't adventurous. I had once tried Indian food and it didn't quite appeal to my palate. Perhaps because I'm not used to the Indian spices. Little India is absolutely an ethnic neighborhood showcasing the culture and arts of migrants from India.

HarbourFront Centre. This is one of the big malls in Singapore that connects to Sentosa via Cable Car. We strolled inside and I found out it isn’t that big as I expected it to be. We contemplated on taking the cable car route to Sentosa but I noticed, only few are availing the seemingly exciting ride. But since Vivo City was another mall of interest for us, we decided to take the Monorail instead so we could roam around Vivo City on our way to the station.

Next was Vivo City. I just learned from a brochure that this is the biggest mall in Singapore. This shopping mall is connected to HarbourFront Centre. It's vastness stretching to the seaside. The Sentosa (Monorail) Station is located in the third level of this huge mall right above the MRT station. The day being a Sunday, we weren't surprised to find the station fully packed with waiting passengers. Although jam packed, it wasn't laborious at all to stand and wait for the ride anyway, as the station is comfortably air conditioned.

Reaching Sentosa was quick and easy by monorail. There’s so much to see and enjoy in this fantastic resort island. Beach, Bird Show, Animal Show, Butterfly garden, Underwater Worlds, The Merlion and Merlion Walk, Dolphin Lagoon and many more. Unfortunately we were not able to see all those fun attractions. I don't think it's advisable to spend on tickets for those when you know you’ll run out of time for them. There are tons of good things to see and enjoy in Sentosa. I wish we had a week or more to spend in that amazing place. We left Sentosa at around 4 pm for further Singapore exploration.:

Next stop was Bugis Street. We almost got lost here. It took us a long while figuring out directions coming here. But it was fun! Anyway, this is one shopping area that is comparable to Greenhills of Metro-Manila. Goods are low priced. Fashionable clothing, t-shirts, footwear, accessories, and other trendy stuff were hard to resist.

The big kiddos enjoyed their loots from here. We left the place as soon as darkness sets in. Which meant it was already 8-9 pm then. We haven’t had our dinner yet but ‘twas no problem! Our hotel is surrounded by scores of good eating places, entertainment plazas and big shopping malls to boot.

We went straight to Concorde Shopping Mall's Food Court (right behind our hotel) for our dinner, before calling it a day.

Singapore Getaway: Day 1

We left Centennial 3 Airport at 6:00am. It was a smooth 3 hour flight and reached Singapore Changi Airport by 9:00am. We were met by a friend of my son at the airport who is permanently based there. She led us to our hotel’s location and kind enough to have guided us to the nearby shopping centers in Orchard Road. Our check-in time at the Supreme Hotel was yet at 2:00pm. We thought we had to wait and rest at the lobby but luckily, the front desk clerk of the hotel is a Pinay and very accommodating. She allowed us to proceed to our room. Thus, we were able to take a rest before we had our first Singapore lunch.

By noon, we freshened up ourselves and went out to look for a place to lunch. Didn’t know that our hotel was that close to Orchard Road’s shopping area. It was really nice to be a stone’s throw away from that famous place. As we waited for our turn to cross the street going to Orchard Central, I noticed the sidewalk beams with people of various nationalities, Chinese', Koreans, Westerners, Blacks, Indians, Pinoys and other Asians who somehow look similar to each other. One good thing that I liked was that I didn’t feel any racial discrimination unlike in Hongkong wherein, I felt every Filipinas seen by the Hong Kong nationals are regarded as their housemaids. Sigh! (Now, I blame this to the Philippine Government. This is another topic to discuss though.)

After lunch, we headed back to our hotel, took a rest then proceeded to explore Singapore on our own. With map in hand, we took the MRT from Dhoby Ghaut. Getting our MRT tickets from a machine was a bit intriguing but the big kiddos got accustomed to it after a try or two. They even helped other first timer foreigners on how to use the machine. Great feeling for them I’m sure! Ha ha..

Chinatown was the first place of interest we visited by MRT. We arrived at the place at around 6pm but looks like it was only 4pm since the sun’s rays was still intense. The place abounds with interesting low-priced goodies and souvenirs, likewise with restos and eateries that serve authentic Chinese dishes that I so loved. As we walked around, we saw one Hindu temple that caught our attention with its intricate adornments and statues. Foot wears were left by the temple’s doorway along the street with no one attending to them. Fascinating! Shameful to admit though, you can’t do that here in the Philippines!! I’m sure you know why! Blush!

I missed my laptop and my blogger buddies! I decided not to bring my lappy with me since my personal porter didn't come along. Lol! I’m still taking a rest from our tiring short vacation. It’s been an extremely enjoyable trip for the 3 big kiddos and me. Four days were too short for us. I wished we had longer time of stay, unfortunately though, it’s just not possible for us.

Stupid Error

I still couldn’t get over the biggest mistake I’ve just committed. (Or was it mine alone?) I had been so careless and assuming! Can’t help hating myself for it! Here, I'll let you know why!

Our family has long wanted to take a trip to Singapore. Hence, the moment I saw an airline fare promo online, I immediately booked for my family of 4 plus daughter’s friend. I made the booking last January for travel this March . Last February, I came to remember hubby’s passport was with him in his office. I asked for it together with his TIN (Taxpayer’s Identification Number) for use in foreign exchange. I made use of it (passport) with ease in a bank after which I stashed it along with all our passports. Last Monday, I checked all the needed documents. I asked daughter to print another copy of our Airline tickets as well as the hotel reservation voucher (for extra copy). She handed those to me last night. That was the time that I secured all the papers in one brown envelop. I was very confident all the documents were in order. Nonetheless, out of the blue,.I just thought of scrutinizing all the passports one by one. I almost passed out when I saw hubby’s passport’s expiration date: March 3, 2010! Dang! I freaked out like crazy but after a while of pointing fingers I gave in to the fact that nothing can be done to correct the blunder.. Each one is disheartened but don't wanna put to waste the plane tickets and hotel accommodation we have earlier reserved for Saturday, March 19 until Tuesday, March 22.

Excited to see Singapore although sad 'cause the family's not complete. And whose fault is it? Should I take all the blame? Nah! I don't think it matters now!. Complete or not, happy or sad we go! Singapore is waiting for us!

Free time at Greenhills Shopping Center

Friday was good! I was able to go out again and went to Greenhills Shopping Center. I left early right after lunch, so I could come back early ‘cause I gave a nod to a friend’s son’s birthday party early in the evening. However, I ran out of time when hubby arrived late in fetching me due to the rush hour traffic jam. Given that I won’t make it in time for the party, we opted to have dinner at Minis Steak House In Shoppesville. This place is one of the good eating places we love to go to since the early 90’s. It is known for its tasty steaks that come with soup, bread, coleslaw and a desert of ice cream. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my cam with me so I wasn’t able to take pictures. Hubby has taken one or two shots with his mobile phone's cam although the result wasn't quite good.

Caesar Salad heals cramps?

While in the mall enjoying my whole afternoon getting in and out of the shops looking for good bargains, I suddenly felt piercing pain in my left foot toes that slowly moved to my ankle until I could feel the terrible cramp in my left leg. Walking became instantly difficult for me. I looked for a place where I could rest my feet and the nearest I saw was the vacant table inside the Pizza Hut Parlor. Once inside, the waiter handed me the menu. I wasn’t really hungry but it would be awkward not to order any while I sit there. So I just ordered this.

A Caesar Salad is a salad of romaine lettuce and croutons dressed with parmesan cheese, lemon juice, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. This is according to Wikipedia. The description to my ordered salad is almost perfect except that Wiki didn’t mention the crispy bacons I saw on my plate which I only set aside as I am a no pork eater. It didn’t mention too, that it relieves foot cramps! Aha ha ha.. of course, the last line isn't true. It just so happened that after I’ve finished my salad, the pain on my foot was remarkably gone! There's got to be miracle in it! Lol!

Caught a Hush Puppies

Yeah, I caught a pair of Hush Puppies but not the doggie breed with long ears. Ha ha! It’s the brand of shoes I accidentally caught from the 3 Day Sale held last weekend at SM Fairview. I was really looking for a good pair of sneakers when I saw this pair in the rack tagged with 40% Discount. Unlike other sneakers though, this one isn't washable. Simply because it's all made of leather except the sole. When I asked to fit one, I was given the one size bigger than my actual size. Only two sizes were left, the other one is much bigger. I found my exact size on other styles but with only a 10% Discount on the price. So I couldn’t make up my mind which to pick then. …The slightly loose or the exact fit? And what’s your guess? If you know me, how frugal I am, you’d know which one I've chosen! Ha ha.. Of course, I never would let go of such big discount! I just hoped (and I had a feeling anyway) that it would rightly fit when I get my socks on. And I wasn’t wrong after all! It is the perfect fit for my feet. Very light and comfy! Can’t wait to wear it for some extensive trekking in a few weeks time ! Oh, weeeh!

This box of Lindt Thins Swiss Chocolates was handed to me by hubby many weeks ago. I hid it in a drawer planning to consume when I am free and relaxing. However, I had totally forgotten about the sweet thing until the other day when daughter found it while she was looking for something. I don't know why, but I love to receive chocolates or buy packs of it whenever we go to Duty Free Shops though the fact is, I don’t have sweet tooth. I may love to hold and keep some for personal consumption but I don’t crave for them as much as I crave for crispy chicken skins or spicy crispy squids. Yes, that's how cheap my taste buds is. Anyhow, life is short! So I say, we gotta enjoy whatever makes us happy. But only in moderation!

Buffet Dinner at Dad’s

Hubby and I went to Megamall the other night to dine but with no particular place in mind to go to. He expressed desire for Japanese food while I longed for steak. Of course, there was no way to go our own separate ways just for the food we like! Good thing, there's Dad's in that mall. Dad’s is a popular buffet restaurant here in Metro-manila that offers the food we want and more. They serve Western cuisines, Japanese and Filipino food as well. Thus, we found ourselves amongst the many customers picking the best food choices lining up in different spots inside the resto. Quite given, I went straight to my loved angus roast beef, lengua and ebi tempura. Hubby feasted on his sashimis, sushis , sukiyakis and other Japanese fare. There were lots of food choices but I wonder if anyone could have the power to try even only a bit of each. Ha ha.. unless maybe one is too famished. Eeek! Well anyway, we filled ourselves just enough to last us until late that night as we still had few hours to spend for live bands' music in Camelot Hotel's Dungeon Music Bar. And to cut this short, 'twas one good night out for me. I needed that! Thanks to my date! (wink!)

Kinda good deal

With few errands in hand, I headed off to the Mall to carry out my task. And what do you know?! I aimlessly passed by a local leather goods shop named Manels and sneaked a peek on the leather handbags they have on display. Couldn’t take my eyes and hands off on one! It’s a genuine leathered practical handbag/shoulder bag in one. But having qualms on buying because of the price tag! Actually, it's only cheap. That's for the moneyed but sort of pricey for someone like me. I’m fetish on genuine leather bags no doubt but I know, I gotta control my OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) too! Again, I took the handbag off the rack, hung it on my shoulder, held it, walked with it..then returned to the rack again. “Mmm…No way to buy it now! Quite expensive for me” I told the salesperson. In my mind though, I’d definitely come back for it, by hook or by crook no matter what! Woot!... But then, the salesperson informed me it’s on sale. The sale tag was just detached and was shown to me! Printed on it is 50% OFF! OMG!! I could have jumped as high as the ceiling if I didn’t control myself! Without thinking twice, I grabbed the bag, brought it to the cashier counter and pulled out my credit card. But alas! The cashier was apologetic that their omron machine is out of order. Whatttt? Can’t make use of my credit card?? Dang! Think.. think.. think.. then think again! If I’d have to come back tomorrow, ...am pretty sure, I’m not gonna see this handbag again! ..And my OCD is raging to the highest level! The last thing I knew, I was squeezing my purse to the last drop, Who cares?! (Okay, with all due respect to the hubby, he always understands anyway. Besides, this just fills up the missing Valentine gift. Right dear?! ) Happiness such as this comes only once in a blue moon for me so I might as well value the moment!! Cheers!

Jollibee Birthday Party for Cloud

It was an enjoyable night at a Kiddie party! Our Grandnephew celebrated his first birthday. But ain’t kiddie parties supposed to be held in the earlier hour of the day? Yes, I think so! But this one is like Kiddies night out! Lol! Actually, our niece ( the Mom) turned short of time to look for a Jollibee Kiddie party sked in an afternoon slot. She had no choice but to take the available early evening sked. Everything turned out fine anyway. Kids were all vibrant in their parlor games. But the mommies and daddies, energetic as they are were unstoppable in bagging the cutie giveaways in the oldie version of kiddie games no matter what the cost! Whether they drop their butt hard on the floor or sway their hips like little tykes do. Everyone seemed to have their share of a good laugh! Am pleased that I attended this kiddie party given for our "Apo"! Watching them all is so much fun! Minus one boring day.. err..night for me. Happy1st Birthday Cloud!

Daughter's Birthday Dinner

Sunday was daughter’s birthday. She didn’t have any plans of celebrating it at all, but just the same, the family still went out to dine in our fave resto in the mall near us. According to her, she was only expecting that I would just be preparing the traditional birthday spaghetti for her. Well, I didn’t prepare it coz I knew they’d be overly full to go out for the anticipated family dinner out that evening if ever I would. Anyway, she already had some good time with friends the day before. Not to forget she got the gift she wanted from me which was a pair of Nike running shoes. She nudged me no end for it so after the dinner we proceeded to find her shoes. I guess that was enough to make her feel it was her birthday!

And the special cake from the boyfriend surely made her day!

A trip down Manila and its Chinatown

Manila is only about 1 and ½ hour ride from our place. Yet, it’s been decades since my youthful stint in the area. Quiapo is where I spent my high school and college days and Binondo, where Chinatown is located, is where I had my first office job while yet in college. Naturally for me, Manila would always be part of my being. A lot of beautiful memories transpired here. There were bad ones too, but I’d rather not dwell on them!

So yesterday, I slipped on my flats and took an FX ride to Quiapo alone! Yeah, alone! Just didn’t bother anyone else to come along with me since I really wanted to explore every nook and turns of the city I used to know without worrying for someone getting tired or something.

‘Twas an easy ride I had! I alighted from the cab right beside the pilgrimed Quiapo Church.

I went inside and prayed for a minute. then on my way out while I was taking picture of the church's altar, I was stopped by the supposed guard standing by the door. Good thing I was done when he saw me. Weeee!

The Plaza Miranda fronting the church is jam-packed with all kinds of goods being sold in push carts and and makeshift stalls. From veggies and fruits to cooked food, various foot wears ,

clothings and even pirated dvd’s.

I was almost tempted to pick some fresh veggies coz they were very cheap but I remembered I still have a lot of walking to do so I brushed aside the enticement.

I went on with my trek, my cam on my hand like a genuine tourist. Ha ha! Some vendors gladly posed while I shoot their goods but some shied away or simply ignored. I crossed Carriedo Street and in my mind, a pre school girl used to be brought here by her mother to shop for shoes in a little shoe store called Shoemart. Now, many decades past, that little girl is now an oldie mom and that shoe store is now the SM Malls Conglomerates that has grown all over the country and other parts of the world! I still can’t believe time has truly gone that far!

Then I passed by Avenida Rizal heading to Chinatown. As I reached Ongpin Street, I was glad to find what I expected to see.

There was a real festivity everywhere. Sounds of drums and gongs loudly verberate all throughout the district. Fireworks abound and dragon dance were everywhere.It was indeed Chinese New Year!!

Glad I reached Binondo Church, one of the oldest church in the Philippines built in 1596. Was feeling quite nostalgic here coz I used to come here in the early 70’s (oops, revealing my age! Lol!)

Then onward to Escolta via Quintin Paredes St. Another reflective memory here coz the building that housed my very first office job is still there. Couldn’t help reminisce some good memories of being young and carefree! Woot!

As I turned left to Escolta, Savory Restaurant seemed to greet me! " Long time no see! Who was always with you then when you used to come here?" Uh – oh!... (yes, I remember the boy… but I don’t remember the feeling anymore!) ha ha!

Then along Escolta Street, Syvel’s was a landmark. It was once a classy store in the vicinity along with Oceanic. Syvel’s I’m glad is still there but didn’t notice the latter.

Heading on, I was back to Sta Cruz Church and to Plaza Sta. Cruz.

Back home, I was very tired but happy and satisfied with my trip down Manila and Chinatown and down memory lane as well!

I've been pleasantly surprised by this award from my blogger friend, Nancy! Thanks so much my dear friend! Glad you're back! Actually, it's been a while since I last received one. Here I am posting the said award although I know the meaning doesn't fit me. However, just being thought of for this award is ...I agree with her when she said, this' means SOMETHING! It is, indeed!

I like coke so much but trying hard to avoid.

Traveling lifts up my spirit
I follow my own CD exercises instead of going to a gym
Having coffee with close friends makes my day.
I always do the cooking for my family.
Happiness for me is when hubby voluntarily dates me out to an elegant dinner and night of good music. (which I miss lately! hu hu!)
